Laura Hulley
MSt in English (1550-1700)

I grew up in North Lincolnshire with my head in books, and have been reading, writing and studying ever since. After having graduated from the University of York in 2010 with a starred first in English and Related Literature, I volunteered and travelled my way around India and South Africa, then worked briefly in publishing before arriving in Oxford to take the MSt in English (1550-1700) at Oxford. Whether through guest speakers, trips to galleries, or at our weekly sandwich-and-a-scholar presentations, the interdisciplinary, international and collaborative atmosphere of Ertegun House exposed me to a broad range of ideas that had a great impact on me, both academically and personally.

 

Life After Ertegun House

My time at Ertegun House was truly remarkable, and the support I received unsurpassable. I went on to work for two years in the communications department at the United Nations Office for Project Services in Copenhagen, before moving to France to complete a Master's in International Security and Human Rights at Sciences Po Paris. I now work for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office at the British Embassy in Paris, where I cover migration, justice and home affairs.
